Meet Grannie!
This is Grannie, my doll customized to be a grandmother character. I’ve been wanting a grandma in my collection for a really long time, but everything finally fell into place this month and so here she is!
I made her from a 23 inch My Twinn that I found secondhand for super cheap, at a fraction of the original $160 price for dolls back when the company was still in business. Her body tag indicates she was constructed in 2009. I didn’t care very much what she looked like, so I just chose the one being sold for the lowest price.
I used watercolor pencils to give her face some wrinkles and shading. I removed her original wig and gave her the Grandma Flossie wig that I got from monique.com. She has pierced ears and is wearing American Girl brand earrings.
My Twinn dolls have a bendy skeleton that gives them lots of poseability. Grannie can bend at her knees, elbows, shoulders, and waist. Her height and proportions let her easily wear baby clothes and shoes.
Her articulation means that she gives awesome hugs to her grandkids. She’s best friends with Leanne, who shares a name and a birthday with Grannie.
Here she is as a teenager in the 60′s. Her full name is Anne Romero, and she’s a veterinarian specializing in farm animals. She is dearly loved in her community for her service, and so she’s not even close to being ready to retire!
Now she lives with her daughter, son-in-law, and five granddaughters. They love seeing her every day and she loves watching them grow up! They gave her the nickname Grannie, short for Grand Annie.
